CAF2020 - Camberwell Arts Directory

Unsurprisingly, Camberwell Arts Festival 2020 is going digital this year. To make the festival function digitally the entire website had to be rebuilt, switching to the newest Squarespace template.

Open Studios is my ‘official’ remit for the festival, so I thought now’s a god a time as ever to get my pet project off the ground - The Camberwell Arts Directory.

The reasoning behind Camberwell Arts Directory is threefold

  • It provides a digital presence to artist’s who don’t have their own website

  • It functions as a digital open studio during lockdown

  • It helps audiences search for the type of work they like and see the breadth of practices in Camberwell

Artists are categorized by price range, practice, and studio. I even made one for myself!

The Directory was a success for 2020, with over 60 artists signed up. Interestingly, the stats skew towards independent artists rather than those attached to a studio. Maybe home artists are working more in lockdown since they don’t have to travel?

Hopefully, we’ll be able to integrate sales in the future and get better penetration into some of the larger complexes.

Thanks to Colleen Burns for designing the new Camberwell Arts Website
